WikiSCUM is an online encyclopedia and, as a means to that end, also an online community. Therefore, there are certain things that WikiSCUM is not.

  1. WikiSCUM is only an encyclopedia and only for underground music in Santa Cruz County, California. WikiSCUM is not about bands or shows or venues (etc.) outside of Santa Cruz County. Nor is this project about anatomy, minerals, Guy Debord, Commodity fetishism, Fassbinder, the History of Buddhism, San Francisco, California, Daft Punk, etc.
  2. WikiSCUM is not a blog. Please do not sign your edits of articles. Please do not reply to edits within articles. Discussions can take place on associated TALK pages, but please try to limit comments to conversations about how to make the article better.
  3. WikiSCUM is not like Friendster or Myspace. Please do not write testimonial-type messages in articles. This is an encyclopedia.
  4. WikiSCUM is not a soapbox, a chatroom, or discussion forum.
  5. WikiSCUM is not propaganda or advocacy of any kind. Of course, an article can report objectively about such things, as long as an attempt is made to approach a neutral point of view.
  6. WikiSCUM is not advertising. Articles about companies, bands and products are fine if they are written in an objective and unbiased style and their subject is relevant enough to merit an article. External links to commercial organizations and bands are acceptable. Please note WikiSCUM does not endorse any businesses and it does not set up affiliate programs.
  7. WikiSCUM is not for press releases. The language used in press releases often violates the neutral-point-of-view policy of this project. WikiSCUM is an encyclopedia.
  8. WikiSCUM is not a tabloid. We are not interested in secrets and topics of personal natures. Such information with be removed.
  9. WikiSCUM articles are not Internet directories or collections of external links. There is nothing wrong with adding to an article a list of content-relevant links; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of WikiSCUM. An article should not be solely an external link.
  10. WikiSCUM is not a repository for source material such as entire lyrics.
  11. WikiSCUM is not a host for personal homepages.Wikicitizens have their own personal pages, but they are used for information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage unrelated to encyclopedia work (e.g. posting your resume), please make use of one of the many free homepage providers on the Internet.
  12. WikiSCUM is not a host for file storage areas. Please upload only files that are used (or will be used) in encyclopedia articles; anything else will be deleted. If you have extra relevant images that are available under a free licence, consider uploading them to the Wikimedia Commons instead, and linking to them from WikiSCUM.
  13. WikiSCUM is not censored for the protection of minors. Wikia may contain content that some readers consider objectionable or offensive. Anyone reading WikiSCUM can edit an article and the changes are displayed instantaneously without any checking to ensure appropriateness, so WikiSCUM cannot guarantee that you or your child will see or read nothing objectionable. While obviously inappropriate content is usually removed immediately, some articles may include objectionable text, images, or links, provided they do not violate any of our existing policies (especially Neutral point of view), nor the law of the state of Florida in the United States, where the servers are currently hosted.
  14. WikiSCUM is not a battleground. Every user is expected to interact with others civilly, calmly, and in a spirit of cooperation. Do not insult, harass or intimidate those with whom you have a disagreement. Rather, approach the matter in an intelligent manner, and engage in polite discussion. Do not create or modify articles just to prove a point.
  15. WikiSCUM is not about money.
  16. WikiSCUM is not the Society For Cutting Up Men. Go rent Women in Revolt.
