Doctor Free is the WikiSCUM user name of Dr. Ronald Joe Record. He moved to Santa Cruz in 1980 and immediately became Tao Chemical's most ardent fan. During his stay at UCSC Record got to know Spot 1019, Camper Van Beethoven, The Tokyo Negroes, The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada, Box O' Laughs, The Wrestling Worms, The Call, The Humans, The Batteries, Fred, Deth Specula, and many other local bands.

Dr. Record obtained a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1994. He has been employed as the chief open source software architect at The Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) since 1983. Prior to that, he served as a teaching assistant at UCSC and worked at NASA Ames Research Center in the automated guidance and navigation laboratory. For additional information see ronrecord.com
