The Prisoners

The Prisoners were a Santa Cruz band (1979 - 1981) comprised of Paul Edwards (guitar), Larry Hughes (drums) and Dave Calloway (bass).

Dave and Larry first played together in The Ulcers.

Songs included "Whisker Burns on Your Heart," "Whores and Coors" and "Impotent but Proud."

Although the band had an old-school garage-rock sound, they were among the first in Santa Cruz to champion the newly burgeoning hardcore scene, bringing Black Flag, DOA and the Dead Kennedys to town in the summer of 1980.

They disbanded in early 1981 and Paul and Dave moved to Los Angeles. Eventually Paul called it quits on the music to pursue an acting career. Dave then came back to Santa Cruz and started The Flaps with Larry.
