General Information[]
Game updates can be found on the steam news feed located at https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/513710.
In order to make it as easy as possible for editors to add these updates into the wiki, we have set up a 6 step system that can be split between multiple people. A single editor can do any number of steps, with each one improving the page by a large margin.
Not comfortable with a certain step? No worries! any steps completed are a massive help and will be needed in order to keep the wiki up to date.
The steps that each update page must go through are as follows:
- Page Creation - Create the page in the correct format
- Content Transfer - Copy over the steam patch notes
- Image Transfer - copy over the images from the steam patch notes
- Content Formatting - format the content from the patch notes so that it looks correct on the wiki
- Content Incorporation - Update the wiki pages based on the update content, pointing back to the update in the change info area
- Content Linking - add links throughout the page to other pages in the wiki, allowing for a viewer to easily navigate to important pages
These steps do not need to be done in order, after page creation and content transfer the other steps can be done at any time! If you find that you enjoy one step specifically or are able to perform it well, don't hesitate to focus on just that step over multiple updates!
Looking for a list of updates that need specific steps completed? we have them all listed at the following links:
- Category:Updates needing content
- Category:Updates needing images
- Category:Updates needing formatting
- Category:Updates not incorporated into the wiki
- Category:Updates needing linking
The updates you are going to want to look for are labeled as patches, regular updates, or small updates. Hotfixes can be added if desired, but usually do not contain changes to the game other than bugfixes so they can usually be ignored.
Now on to some more detail on each step of the process
Step 1: Page Creation[]
Quick info[]
Page Name: "Update MM-DD-YY"
Required page content:

Detailed Tutorial[]
1. All update pages on this wiki are located in the category Category:Updates. If you look in that category, you will notice all pages are named in the format "Update MM-DD-YY", with the date being the date the update was released. Create a new page for the desired update with this naming convention.
2. Add the following code to the page (Copy paste the following into the new page edit area):

3. Save this page and make sure the link showing in the new previous update section does not show up as red. If it does then make sure you supplied the correct page title to the previousupdate parameter of the last step. You can find the correct title by finding the previous update in Category:Updates
4. If it shows up as blue then you are good to go!
Step 2: Content Transfer from Steam[]
Quick info[]
This step covers transferring the main text of the update from steam into the wiki
Once information is transferred from Steam you MUST remove the following from the page:

Please note this step does not include formatting or images, so don't worry if it looks off and does not have images.
Detailed Tutorial[]
- Head over to the patch notes on steam related to this update. A link to the update should be present in the Infobox at the top of the page.
- Starting from the first letter in the title, highlight the entirety of the patch notes on the Steam page
- Copy the content by either right click->Copy or CTRL + C
- Head over to the update page and click "Edit" if not already in editing mode
- Create a new paragraph by clicking on empty space in visual mode, or an empty line in source mode (The mode is shown in the top right of the editor)
- Paste the content into the wiki page by right click->Paste or CTRL + V
- You should now see all of the text from the Steam patch notes on the wiki page! Don't worry if this text is formatted strangely, that will be solved in a later step
- Lastly, this is the MOST IMPORTANT STEP. Find the "Content Needed" template on the page (Should be either at the very top or very bottom).
- Delete this template off of the page to indicate that the content transfer step has been completed
- Congratulations, you have completed the Content Transfer step for this Update!
Step 3: Image Transfer from Steam[]
Quick info[]
This step covers transferring the images of the update from Steam into the wiki, Please note that this tutorial is designed to explain the process if you are using Google Chrome as an internet browser and Windows as an operating system. Using a browser/OS other than these may result in some steps being slightly different.
Once information is transferred from Steam you MUST remove the following from the page:

Please note this step does not include formatting, so don't worry if it looks off after you have completed the step
Detailed Tutorial[]
- Head over to the patch notes on steam related to this update. A link to the update should be present in the Infobox at the top of the page.
- Starting from the top of the page, right click each image within the patchnotes and click "Save Image As" from the menu
- Save each image with a name that makes sense for what it is explaining. It makes it easier if all images for the update are in the same folder but it is not required. Note: DO NOT name any images as exact names for in game objects or items, these names are reserved for item icons. Instead do something like "ITEM_NAME Announcement"
- Head over to the update page and click "Edit" if not already in editing mode.
- Open your File Explorer on your computer and navigate to the location that you saved all of your images
- Upload these images onto the page. The best way to do this differs based on what editor you are using, check out https://community.fandom.com/wiki/Help:Uploading_files and https://community.fandom.com/wiki/Help:Multiple_uploads for information on the easiest way for you to do it
- Once the images are uploaded, you can add them to the page. If you do not know how to add images to a wiki page check out https://community.fandom.com/wiki/Help:Adding_images
- You should now see all of the images from the Steam patch notes on the wiki page! Don't worry if the images are not formatted perfectly, that will be solved in a later step
- Lastly, the MOST IMPORTANT STEP. Find the "Images_Needed" template on the page (Should be either at the very top or very bottom).
- Delete this template off of the page to indicate that the Image transfer step has been completed
- Congratulations, you have completed the Image Transfer step for this Update!
Step 4: Page Formatting[]
This step covers propperly formatting the raw information from the steam patch notes. Please note that this tutorial is designed to explain the process if you are using Google Chrome as an internet browser and Windows as an operating system. Using a browser/OS other than these may result in some steps being slightly different.
Quick info[]
- All images should be set to a size of 600px
- All headers should be defined with sub-headings underneath them. These headers are usually images in the patch notes, so you will have to replace them with proper wikitext headings
- All images are on their own line
- Bullet points and numbered lists are in proper wikitext
Once information is transferred from Steam you MUST remove the following from the page:

Detailed Tutorial[]
- Once an update page has its content and pictures added to it, it will need to be formatted in order to look correct. It is easiest to use the Source Editor to adjust this formatting. from the normal edit screen, look in the top right to find what editor you are using. If this does not say "Source Editor" click on it and switch to source editor mode.
- All headers should be defined with sub-headings underneath them. These headers are usually images in the patch notes, so you will have to replace them with proper wikitext headings. You can do so by either putting = signs before and after the text you want to be a header, or highlight the text and select the heading level in the top left of the editor.
- All images should be set to a size of 600px. Scroll through the page and find each of your images, the images will not appear in source editor, instead look for items that look like . Within each of these "File" links, add |600px to the end of it. the earlier example would now look like
- All images should be on their own line. in order to do this make sure you have a full blank line between each of the File links on the page.
For example you should turn something like:

into

5. Finally, you are going to want to make sure all bulletpoints and numerical lists show as propper wikitext. This may be broken due to <br/> being present on the page. You will want to replace all instances of <br/> with an actual new line. You can do this by highlighting every instance of <br/> and pressing enter. This will remove the <br/> and add a new line instead
6. At this point take a step back and look for anything else that may seem off on the page. Once you're happy with it, remove the
template from the page and save.
7. Congradulations! you have completed the formatting step
Step 5: Update Incorporation[]
This step covers properly linking changes on pages throughout the wiki to the update that implemented them. This allows users to have a clear picture of when a change happened, as well as give a timeline of what changes have occured. Please note that this tutorial is designed to explain the process if you are using Google Chrome as an internet browser and Windows as an operating system. Using a browser/OS other than these may result in some steps being slightly different.
Quick info[]
New change history:
Change History
UPDATE_PAGE_NAME
Description of change
Existing change history (Add to start of wikitable):
UPDATE_PAGE_NAME |Description of change |-
Detailed Tutorial[]
- Update incorporation for the most part does not change the update page itself. instead this process is done to make sure the changes in the update actually get applied throughout the wiki.
- Begin by reading through the update page and note each change that should be linked to a particular place, mechanic, item, etc. in Scum. Also note any new items or mechanics that need to be added. Bug fixes can be included if you desire, but are not necesary due to the temporary nature of them. If #Step 6: Linking other pages has already been completed, make sure you at least include any pages that are linked from the patch notes page.
- Repeat the following steps for each change you note
- Go to the page related to the change you see, or create a new page if one does not already exist. If multiple pages seem to fit the change, pick the better of the two or do both, your choice.
- It is easiest to use the Source Editor to adjust change history tables. from the normal edit screen, look in the top right to find what editor you are using. If this does not say "Source Editor" click on it and switch to source editor mode.
- For new pages or pages that do not have a "Change History" section: Paste the following code onto the new page. If you want to add some information you can, but feel free to leave it with just this information, you don't have to do it all! Make sure you change the "UPDATE_PAGE_NAME" text to the update page that added/changed the item/mechanic. Also make sure you update the description section to a short summary of the change. If this update just added the item/mechanic, you can leave the description as simply "Added"
Change History
UPDATE_PAGE_NAME
Description of change (If it is a new item/mechanic this can just be "Added")
7. For changes to items/mechanics with existing change history tables, Paste the following code into the existing change history section, this should be placed on top of the older updates, so that the newest update shows up at the top of the table. In other words, find the line reading {| class="wikitable", press enter to create a new line right below it, and paste the following code. Make sure you change the "UPDATE_PAGE_NAME" text to the update page that changed the item/mechanic, also make sure you update the description section to a short summary of the change.
UPDATE_PAGE_NAME |Description of change (If it is a new item/mechanic this can just be "Added") |-
For example
Change History
Update 06-07-19
I'm a change description
becomes
Change History
Update 09-19-22
Wow! A new change!
Update 06-07-19
I'm a change description
8. Lastly, the MOST IMPORTANT STEP. Find the "Incorporation_Needed" template on the page (Should be either at the very top or very bottom). 9. Delete this template off of the page to indicate that the changes within this update have been updated across the wiki 10. Congratulations, you have completed the Update Incorporation step for this Update!
Step 6: Linking other pages[]
Linking other pages allows users to navigate from the update page to the various pages related to them.
Quick info[]
In order to make text into a link, suround the text with double square brackets Page_Name
If the page you want to link is named differently than what the update says, use this format: Update_Text
Detailed Tutorial[]
- Linking other pages allows users to navigate from the update page to the various pages related to them by clicking on links scattered throughout the patch notes
- It is easiest to use the Source Editor to add links to the update page. from the normal edit screen, look in the top right to find what editor you are using. If this does not say "Source Editor" click on it and switch to source editor mode.
- Begin by reading through the update page and note each item that could be linked to a particular page in the scum wiki, either existing or not.
- Repeat the following steps for each change you note
- Links should never be more than a few words in length, pick the word(s) that you want to include in the page link, and surround them with two square brackets "page words"
- If the page name on the wiki is exactly what you have in the square brackets (such as Apple Pie) you are done!
- If the page name on the wiki is different than the update text (most of the time), you will need to add the actual page name at the start of the brackets. Use the format Update text
- Example:
- lets say an update says something like: "Shotgun ammunition will now require an expert engineering skill to craft"
- Within the update you would make it look like: ""Shotgun ammunition will now require an expert engineering skill to craft"
- To readers, this will look like: "Shotgun ammunition will now require an expert engineering skill to craft"
- Example:
- If the page you want to link doesn't exist, you can use the second format (Update text) to specify what you think the page should be called. Don't worry about creating the page yourself, you're doing plenty!
- Once you have added all of the links you want to add, temporarily save the page (or preview it in visual mode) to see if any links are red that you expect to be blue.
- If the link is red, that means it is pointing to a page that doesn't exist. If this is unexpected, take a second look at your link you added.
- Note: page names are case sensitive, and multi-word pages usually capitalize the first letter of each word.
- Also remember that you can use the second format for even the smallest differences between page names and update wording. You should never feel afraid to use that second format, it is usually better to do so!
- Lastly, the MOST IMPORTANT STEP. Once you are happy with your links, find the "Linking_Needed" template on the page (Should be either at the very top or very bottom).
- Delete this template off of the page to indicate that the changes within this update have been updated across the wiki
- Congratulations, you have completed the "Linking other pages" step for this Update!
