Various animals roam the wilds in SCUM. They can be hunted to provide meat, Animal Skin, and other resources.

Hunting[ | ]

To hunt animals you will first need to listen to your surroundings to identify any animals noises or sounds are playing (chicken, horse, goat etc..). Once you hear the sound of an animal you will then need to move towards the location of where the sound was coming from, once you have progressed into the area you suspect played the animal sound hold right click to enter "focus mode".

Focus mode will allow you to scan the ground and search for tracks/clues that the animal has left, once you have located a track (usually indicated by a blue/white prompt) you will then need to interact with the tracks to allow the second animal sound to play, doing this process successfully three to five times will then result in the animal spawning in close to the location allowing you to kill, skin and collect the meat.

Animal tracks/clues will oftentimes be "pointing" in the direction you should head

If you fail to find a set of tracks or clues, roughly 3-5 minutes after hearing the first animal sound, the hunt will fail and the animal will no longer spawn, until a new sound is heard and the above process is repeated

When you find an animal, most will run as soon as they detect you, except the bear, when it spots you, it will attack. If you can injure an animal before it runs, it will usually bleed out and die, and following it will eventually lead to its corpse.

Additional notes[ | ]

The awareness skill can directly affect the radius in which a player can detect animal tracks.

Entering focus mode will dampen proximity sounds slightly reducing your ability to hear further animal sounds.
